Brentford forward Yoane Wissa was on the scoresheet for the Democratic Republic of Congo in their World Cup qualifier last night.
The 27-year-old striker played 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory against Mauritania last night, with the Bees forward scoring in the 62nd minute.
Wissa, who has become a key player for Thomas Frank in Ivan Toney’s absence, has stepped up his performances in recent weeks leading up to his call-up.
His goal last night made it three goals in 11 appearances for his country as he starts to nail down a regular starting position.
Brilliant start for DR Congo and Wissa
Last night victory was a brilliant start to DR Congo’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, with Wissa playing a crucial role.

DR Congo haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1974, with their group giving them a great chance of qualification in three years time.
Wissa’s nation are grouped with Senegal, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo and Mauritania with top spot claiming automatic qualification.
However, should they finish second, they could still end up finding themselves in the tournament which is being held in North America.
Wissa continuing his great form
As previously mentioned, the 27-year-old has stepped up alongside teammate Bryan Mbeumo to try and fill the boots of the suspended Ivan Toney.
Whilst the pair aren’t as naturally gifted in front of goal as Toney, they have helped propel Frank’s side into the top half of the Premier League despite missing their starman.
Wissa has certainly benefitted from more regular game time, with the striker currently enjoying one of his best spells at the GTEC Community Stadium.
