Brentford are interested in signing prolific 19-year-old Argentinian striker Santiago Castro from Velez Sarsfield.

The striker, who has gained a reputation for his remarkable goal record back in his homeland, could be set for a move to the Premier League in January.

Castro has played 39 times for Sarsfield, only scoring twice, however, it’s his international record that has caught Thomas Frank’s eye.

In his six appearances for the Argentina U20 side, he’s scored four times with the striker looking like a real clinical finisher.

Brentford eye move for Santiago Castro

With Ivan Toney returning from suspension on January 17th, the Bees may not need to purchase another forward.

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have both been in good form for Frank’s side, but the club may target another youngster for the future.

Castro won’t be short of attention in January given his current goalscoring record for his nation.

Alan Nixon confirmed that the Bees were present in South America this week, in the hope of completing a deal for the 19-year-old.

Another talented Brentford youngster?

In recent seasons, Frank’s side have recruited numerous talented youngsters who were relatively unknown before joining the club.

Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Neal Maupay were three players brought into the club for small fees, with all three players unknown to many.

The club managed to receive nearly £70 million for the trio, with the club still managing to win promotion to the Premier League.

Hopefully, Castro can be the next hidden gem the club sign, with the Argentinian highly rated back in his homeland.
