Brentford are set to rival Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in January.

The 26-year-old Nigerian has one year left on his current deal with the Foxes, but Enzo Maresca’s side are willing to sell Ndidi should they receive a bid in the region of £20 million.

Leicester’s number 25 made 27 appearances for the club in the Premier League last season, as they suffered relegation back to the second tier.

However, he’s made a good start to life in the Championship – playing 12 times scoring once, before picking up an injury which has seen him miss the last couple of weeks.

What would Wilfred Ndidi bring to Brentford?

Ndidi is a very athletic midfielder who covers a lot of ground, as demonstrated by his tally of 285.8km in his 26 Premier League games in 2019.

In the four years since, the Nigerian has become more of an anchor-type midfielder. He loves to make a tackle and has the ability to read the game, knowing to be in the right place at the right times.

With rumours that captain Christian Norgaard could be joining Tottenham Hotspur in January, £20 million-rated Ndidi could be a replacement for the 29-year-old.

The 26-year-old Leicester man is experienced in England’s top flight, making over 150 appearances for the club in the Premier League since his arrival in 2017.

A real battle for Ndidi’s signature

As previously mentioned, Thomas Frank’s side face a battle to sign the Nigerian international, with elite sides such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid interested in the midfielder.

Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest were also said to be interested in Ndidi during the summer, however, the Reds decided to pursue a move for Ibrahim Sangare instead.

He has a whole wealth of experience that would be invaluable to Franks’s side. He may not fit the profile of a Brentford signing, but he would add needed experience especially should Norgaard leave this window.
