Brentford are said to be planning a move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi should Ivan Toney leave the club in January.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Scottish side back in 2021 for £4 million, has been crucial under managers Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.

Japanese forward Kyogo has scored 45 times in 69 appearances for the club, including two in the Champions League this season.

According to TeamTalk, Thomas Frank’s side aren’t the only team interested in signing the forward, with Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin also wanting Celtic’s talisman.

Brentford may target Kyogo in January

Any move for the Celtic forward would purely depend on any movement with current striker Ivan Toney, who has interest from Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Toney, who has been valued at around £80 million is currently serving a suspension for gambling, with it unlikely the 28-year-old will depart the GTEC Community Stadium this window.

Kyogo, who is under contract until 2027 would be available for around £20 million this window, should the Bees want to pursue any deal for the forward.

However, with Kyogo being 28, the club are concerned about investing such a high sum into a player who wouldn’t be able to be sold for a profit.

A potential Toney replacement?

With Toney returning to first-team action on January 17th, it’s highly unlikely the Bees will pursue a move for the Japanese striker in January.

Many Premier League sides are interested in signing Toney in January, however, the £80 million price stage is said to be putting many teams off a move.

Should the England international depart in the summer, the club may target Kyogo as a potential replacement for the 28-year-old.
