Mark Flekken has claimed that he should be the number one for the Netherlands during the international break, after a good start to life at Brentford.
Flekken was called up by Ronald Koeman and believes he should be given a starting birth.
The Dutch number one for the 2022 World Cup was Justin Bijlow, but with a broken wrist, he is ruled out.
Bart Verbruggen of Brighton and Hove Albion is also an option for the former Barcelona manager who signed from Anderlecht.
The Seagulls goalkeeper has only started games very recently, whereas Flekken has been Thomas Frank’s number one all season.
One clean sheet and just five goals conceded for the Bees’ goalkeeper has been a positive start.
What has Mark Flekken said?
Flekken clearly backs his own ability which can be a good thing.
When asked about the international break, he believes he should be number one: “I think I have the best credentials at the moment.
“I’m playing all the matches so far, I’m at a good level and I’m feeling good. Of course, you choose yourself at the end of the day.”

The confidence he holds for himself is good to see for a goalkeeper.
There was some questions of his ability during pre-season, especially given the high profile loss of David Raya.
He has had many great games so far this season, making a top class save against Crystal Palace.
Although his confidence is there, his team is more important to him: “There is one thing bigger than yourself and that is the Dutch national team.
“Ultimately it is only about one thing and that is qualifying for the final tournament next year.”
Flekken has been good so far for the Bees and long may it continue, for Brentford and internationally.
