Neal Maupay has admitted that he hates losing and wants to get back on the goal-scoring trail as Brentford look to get back to form.

Maupay first signed for Brentford in 2017 and went on to have a great start to life at Griffin Park in the Championship.

In two years with the Bees, he scored 37 goals across 85 games, seeing him win the London Football Awards EFL Player of the Year for 2018–19.

His form saw Brighton and Hove Albion sign the Frenchman for £20 million where he would make over 100 appearances.

Everton came next for the striker where he only managed to register one goal in a year.

What has Neal Maupay said?

Signing for the Bees, for the second time, fans are hoping that he can return to his best under Thomas Frank.

He made his second debut in the loss against Newcastle United and since has made just two appearances.

Speaking to the official club channel, the forward has opened up about his return.

Despite not yet scoring, the drive is there: “I hate losing more than I love winning. I can’t lose. If you add an edge – it could be a fan, an opposition player or a referee – I can’t give up.

“I’m ready to do anything on the pitch to get a goal and a win.”

Maupay’s attitude has always been top-drawer. A return to Brentford could give him a chance to refind his goalscoring touch.

Worth a starting xi place?

Since signing on loan for the season, he has only featured in just over 50 minutes. He will be hoping for more.

With the Bees failing to score more than one in a match since September 2nd, a new option up top could be the key.

Putting Maupay up front and having Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo flank him, it could improve the team’s balance.

He is here for the season and Frank needs to find a place and get the best out of him.
