Brentford have decided to stop their pursuit of Brennan Johnson after they had a £43 million bid turned down.
Nottingham Forest have set a £50 million price tag on the Welshman as they look to deter any interest.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the race to sign the forward.
There had been two bids, from the Bees, already rejected for the 22-year old.
One of those was worth £35 million, but Forest have set their stall out high.
Should Brentford sign Brennan Johnson?
The forward is undoubtably a great player, with a high celling.
At £50 million, he would become the record signing at the GTECH Community Stadium by over double.
At the time of writing, Nathan Collins is the highest fee paid at £23 million earlier this summer.

This kind of spend may have come to soon for Thomas Frank’s side with them spending over £60 million already this window.
There are also rumours of Nico Gonzalez joining the club for £40 million.
It would appear that the Argentine is the preferred option, considering the similarity in price of the two.
Looking at Johnson, he provides a lot of quality and adds squad depth with his versatility.
Able to play upfront, wide left or right and even as a number ten when needed.
The Welshman is young and had a positive first season in the Premier League last season, and will be looking to improve on that.
He would represent a statement signing for the Bees and would show their muscle in the transfer market.
It seems apparent that this deal won’t happen now, but what a signing it could have been.
