Brentford are amongst the clubs interested in signing BSC Young Boys midfielder Fabian Rieder this summer.
The central midfielder has been impressive in Switzerland, providing nine goals and 11 assists in 43 games across all competitions last season, and is being chased by a number of clubs.
BILD have reported that Brentford, Fulham and Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in the 21-year-old, and while the player prefers to move to Gladbach, they currently cannot afford him, and this could pave the way for Brentford to sign him.
The Swiss under-21 star has two years left on his deal, and looks almost certain to move this summer given how his impressive form has attracted a lot of interest.
What will Rieder bring to Brentford?
Typically an attack-minded box-to-box midfielder, Rieder could slot into the midfield alongside the likes of Christian Norgaard and would add a lot of technical quality to the side.
Despite his technique, which has been described as “superb,” Rieder is not lacking physically, standing at 1.85m tall, and possesses a great work rate off the ball, which is necessary to succeed under Thomas Frank.

Brentford have had a lot of success with under-the-radar signings, and the Young Boys midfielder has the potential to become a star player in the future. Whilst a deal looks difficult to do given the interest in him, a move cannot yet be ruled out, and it is clear that the club want to add to their midfield ranks this summer.
The Bees have already signed Nathan Collins, Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken this summer, and look set to continue their smart recruitment strategy which saw them achieve promotion and become a top-half Premier League side.
For Rieder, the prospect of playing under Frank could be appealing, and this could give Brentford an advantage in what otherwise looks like a difficult transfer battle.
