RSC Anderlecht are still attempting to sign Brentford star Sergi Canos, despite the player being keen on a move to Valencia.

The 26-year-old has been itching for a move to Spain, but Valencia first need to sell before they can offer money for Canos, having bid to sign him for free.

Brentford want a fee for their wantaway midfielder, and Anderlecht can offer one, but the player is set on a move to Valencia, putting the Bees in a difficult position.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Anderlecht are still pushing for Canos to join, with manager Brian Riemer playing an important part in the deal, and Valencia’s lack of ability to offer a fee right now has presented Anderlecht with an opportunity to sign the Spaniard.

If Canos does decide to move to Anderlecht, then this long saga may be drawn to a close soon. However, if he is still set on a move to Valencia, then it seems Brentford will have to wait a while longer before they can get him out of the squad.

Where did it go wrong for Canos at Brentford?

The winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympiakos, after losing his place in the Brentford side, but his actions off the pitch have damaged his relationship with the club and the Brentford fans.

His desire to leave saw him cause uproar after wearing a T-shirt reading “please help me” as the squad returned for pre-season training, and he is doing all he can to engineer a move to Valencia.

He initially fell out of Thomas Frank’s plans after injuries and refusing to play in a wing-back role, and this has been a significant fall in stature for someone who was once a cult hero.

Canos scored the club’s first-ever Premier League goal in the famous victory over Arsenal, and has scored 36 times in 249 appearances for the Bees, but his stay is set to end on a sour note.
