Former Premier League referee and current Sky Sports pundit, Dermot Gallagher believes VAR got potential penalty decisions right in Brentford’s recent draw.
The Irish referee spent 15 years refereeing in the Premier League and as a result has seen it all.
As a pundit, it must be said, he is seen as a controversial figure. Many fans believe he takes the side of the referees and VAR too often.
The 1-1 draw between the Bees and Nottingham Forest saw two contentious decisions go against the away side.
The first saw Nicolas Dominguez and Willy Boly handle the ball in quick succession. After a quick check, nothing was given.
The second saw Matt Turner attempt to clear the ball but take out Yoane Wissa instead. In what looked like a clear-cut decision, VAR somehow didn’t give a penalty.
What has Dermot Gallagher said?
The ex-referee was speaking in his role on Sky Sports and made his opinion on the handball decisions clear.
Discussing the Dominguez and Boly moment, he said: “I’m not sure the first one struck his hand. The second one, no penalty.
“Neither are penalties for me. The Boly one hits his arm it’s by his side, not for me.”

It could be said that the handball decisions would have been harsh on the hosts.
Either way, you look at the handball decisions, the Wissa one has to be given as a penalty.
This wasn’t something that Gallagher discussed, however, so who knows what his opinion was in the end.
