Brentford lost their third game on the bounce against Arsenal in the EFL Cup but Thomas Frank saw reason to be positive.

The Gunners took the lead through Reiss Nelson after just eight minutes and that was enough to secure the win.

Yoanne Wissa had a good chance, in the first half, which he put wide of Aaron Ramsdale’s goal.

The away side kept more possession on the night but it was the Bees that created more chances throughout the game.

With eight more shots and 0.6 xG more, it could be said that the home side deserved to progress.

What has Thomas Frank said after Arsenal?

Last time out, the Bees suffered a defeat to Everton in a very lacklustre performance.

Frank wasn’t happy after that game but appeared happier after this one.

On his side’s showing, he said: “I asked for a bounce-back performance from the players, and they gave me that.”

Despite Arsenal winning, the Dane was happy overall: “The second half was top.

“We pushed Arsenal back, created a lot of good chances, and were very unlucky not to score. The margins didn’t drop our way.”

The next opponent for Brentford is an away trip to Nottingham Forest and they will be looking to get back to winning ways.

This sentiment was shared by Frank: “I was very pleased with the performance and that’s what we need to continue with going into the game on Sunday.”

Continuing on his side’s performance: “We created good moments, pressed very well and high and won the ball back a lot of times.

“We created all the chances that you can ask for in a game like this and on another day they go in the back of the net.”

Despite the loss, it is clear the Danish coach is happy with his side.

On that, he said: “It’s a credit to everyone in the squad that we performed so well today and I’m confident going into the game on Sunday.”
