Brentford defender Rico Henry could be set to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury he suffered against Newcastle United.

The left-back went down just 39 minutes into the 1-0 defeat away at St James’ Park after colliding with Kieran Trippier.

After going down he grabbed and held his knee immediately as you could see the pain on his face.

It appeared that the Englishman was going to need a stretcher to carry him off the pitch, but he was able to walk off with some assistance.

If this is an anterior cruciate ligament injury as expected, this will be the second time he has suffered this injury in his career.

When he suffered his first, in September 2017, he wouldn’t play another game for 14 months, a large setback.

This is a setback on a personal level for the left back.

With links to Manchester United, it looked like the former Walsall man’s stock was at an all-time high.

The addition of it being a season with the European Championships at the end, Henry’s form could have earned him a call-up.

A sad moment for himself and everyone at Brentford and hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

What does Rico Henry’s injury mean for Brentford?

With the transfer window now being shut, it leaves the Bees without their starting left back and with less squad depth.

Henry offers plenty of forward runs from the left-back spot, often creating overloads which is something no one else adds.

With Aaron Hickey, Kristoffer Ajer and Mads Roerslev able to fill that position, it isn’t a complete downer in that sense.

Hickey typically operates on the right and Ajer is a centre back so those options aren’t necessarily ideal.

With no possibility of signing any new players until January, the Bees will have to learn to live without Henry, as frustrating as it must be for all parties.
