Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has confirmed that Aaron Hickey is set to miss at least two months following a hamstring injury.

Up against West Ham United, Brentford managed to come back from behind to secure an impressive win vs tough opposition.

There were questions for Thomas Frank prior to kick-off as Vitaly Janelt began the game at left-back, over Aaron Hickey.

So far this season, the Scotsman had played all but one game, prior to the Hammers clash. Him being missing was a surprise.

With that being said, his German deputy was more than serviceable as he played a terrific game on the day.

What has Thomas Frank said about Aaron Hickey?

There was no explanation prior to the game that Hickey would be missing from the game. Potentially to not let the opposition know.

With that being said, Frank was quick to discuss the full-back’s issues after the game.

Speaking on the Brentford website, the Dane said: “It’s a hamstring injury that he picked up on Thursday. It will be a long one. Unfortunately, he will definitely be out for the rest of this year.”

This will see the Scottish international miss at least nine games in 2023, nearly a quarter of the season.

With it being unclear how long he could be injured, it may be an option that is considered in the January window.

These kinds of injuries can be shorter and longer term and Frank couldn’t confirm a timeframe on this one.

Who can replace him?

Up against West Ham, Janelt proved himself as a worthy deputy for Hickey after an excellent performance.

It must be said that Mads Roerslev may count himself unlucky not to be given a start over the midfielder.

He did come on with 11 minutes to go but at that point, it was all about seeing out the result as opposed to getting forward.

Whoever Frank decides is fit to step into Hickey’s shoes, they have to perform as they may find themselves in that role for a while.
