Brentford may have to be active during the transfer window, with multiple key players linked with a move elsewhere this January.

Club captain Christian Norgaard is on Tottenham Hotspur’s shortlist this January, as new boss Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his midfield.

The 29-year-old has been instrumental for Thomas Frank since his arrival at the club in 2019, with the Bees likely to demand a big fee for the Danish international.

However, here are three players the club should look to sign if Norgaard departs this January…

Leandro Barreiro Martins

The 23-year-old midfielder has progressed rapidly in such a short period of time for Bundesliga side Mainz 05.

Barreiro Martins, who is a Luxembourg international, has featured 11 times in the league this season scoring twice whilst producing some brilliant defensive stats.

Within his 11 starts, the midfielder averages 2.5 tackles per game, with 2 interceptions every game – averaging more than 98% of midfielders in Europe so far this season.

Like Norgaard, 27-year-old midfielder Jens Stage is a Danish international midfielder, making his debut for Denmark back in 2021.

The midfielder, who currently plays for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, has scored twice from defensive midfield this season, but like Barreiro Martins has excelled defensively.

He’s an aerially dominant midfielder, who has won 2.9 headers per game this season with the 27-year-old also making 1.5 blocks per match.

Gabriel Menino

A very out-there shout would be the signing of Palmeiras midfielder Gabriel Menino.

The 23-year-old Brazilian is a slightly different type of player to Norgaard, as Menino is the type of midfielder to regain possession and play forward as much as possible.

In recent seasons, we’ve seen Brazilians such as Joao Gomes and Danilo move from the Brazilian league to the Premier League and thrive, with Menino more than capable of the step up.
