Bees target makes extraordinary claim about potential transfer

Brentford target, Johan Bakayoko, has said he never considered joining the club, no matter how much money was bid.

It was apparent that Brentford were very keen on signing a winger this summer with Bakayoko a name near the top of the list.

The Bees were looking to go head to head with Paris Saint Germain for the PSV star but a deal never came to pass.

A £35 million bid from Thomas Frank’s side was made, but swiftly rejected.

With the deadline slamming shut, Bakayoko will remain in Eindhoven until January at least.

With fans coming to terms with the move failing, the winger made a strange claim.

What has Johan Bakayoko said?

PSV qualified for the Champions League group stages, after beating Rangers over two legs.

This appears to be one of the reasons for a deal not occurring.

Speaking with NOS, Bakayoko said: “Even if they offer €100 million, I wanted to stay with PSV.

“We want to become champions of the Netherlands again and then go as far as possible in the UCL… that was always my focus.”

No Brentford fan would begrudge him wanting to play Champions League football but he has gone about it the wrong way.

It can be argued that a chance of challenging for a title and playing in Europe’s elite competition, is a better prospect than the Premier League.

That being said, playing for a team on the rise in the worlds biggest league is a different challenge.

Although Bakayoko would have been a top class signing, it doesn’t appear that a move will materialise any time soon.

It can be seen as disrespectful to out the club on a public platform which he has done.

Moving forward other options may be considered with comments made souring any chances of a future move.
