Thomas Frank believes that penalty decision given against Brentford was wrong and is awaiting an apology from PGMOL.

The Bees suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Newcastle United with Callum Wilson penalty condemning the loss.

The penalty was awarded after Anthony Gordon went down under a challenge from Mark Flekken.

The decision wasn’t made instantly, Craig Pawson discussed it with his assistant before awarding the spot kick.

Wilson converted the spot kick and the Magpies saw out the game to win 1-0.

It is safe to say that the Brentford boss wasn’t best pleased with the decision.

What has Thomas Frank said?

To lose to a contentious decision is always tough but this one really got the the Brentford boss.

Frank was clear on this point: “The extra frustrating thing it is decided by an on-field decision we are nothing to do with.

“It’s so rare I complain about it because I think ‘okay it’s human beings’ and we all make mistakes. So that happens but it’s extra frustrating when we lose because of that.”

The frustrating thing for Bees fans is that a similar decision went the other way just a few weeks ago.

Frank discussed Kevin Schade’s similar moment: “We just got told four weeks ago when Kevin Schade went through on goal against Tottenham and the goalkeeper took him out that ‘no, he pulled out before’ so we can’t give you a penalty.

“Mark pulled out before so it is not a penalty.”

The challenges are eerily similar, with a completely different decision in both moments.

Frank is waiting for the decision to be condemned: ” VAR can’t do anything because it’s not a clear and obvious failure.

“I’m pretty sure that Howard Webb will come back to us to say ‘sorry we made a mistake.”

With that being said, the result is done and the Bees need to move on and focus on Everton’s visit next week.
