Thomas Frank believes ‘basic things’ cost Bees against Everton

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank wasn’t best pleased after his side’s 3-1 defeat against Everton siting basic problems as the reason.

The away side took an early lead through Abdoulaye Doucoure early on, as he smashed a half-volley past Mark Flekken.

Mathias Jensen scored a great goal to level the score, this was to be one of only two shots on target for the hosts.

Despite having less possession, Sean Dyche’s side continued to create chances where the Bees struggled.

Former Brentford man, James Tarkowski put the Toffees in front before Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured the three points.

Frank’s side fell to their first loss of the season against a side that was yet to win, disappointing to say the least.

What has Thomas Frank said?

It was clear that the Dane wasn’t happy with the result.

On the performance, he said: “Everton deserved to win. Two key things – set pieces and a lot of the basic things.

“We lost the ball in similar situations and that put us on the back foot.”

The Jensen goal appeared to be a springboard to go on and win the game but that wasn’t how it happened.

With that being said, the gaffer was pleased with that element of the game: “We did a good job to hang in the game and get an equaliser.”

Despite having a positive start to the season, this loss sees the Bees winless in their last four Premier League games.

On the start to the season, Frank said: “The first five games of the season, we performed very well. This was hopefully a one-off.”

A trip to Nottingham to face Forest comes next and the Brentford boss is relishing the challenge: “We need to bounce back and come out flying.

“We need to come out with a completely different mindset and performance in our next game.”

Arsenal in the Carabao Cup midweek provides a distraction, but Premier League consistency is what the doctor is ordering for the Bees.
