Sao Paulo left back, Wellington has confirmed that multiple clubs had put in offers for him, with Brentford one of those mentioned.

Wellington is a 22-year old defender who has made 103 appearances appearances for his club, making his debut in 2021.

Last season the Brazilian made 19 appearances and created two goals across all competitions.

He missed 29 games last year due to an ankle injury.

Despite the stereotypical thoughts of a Brazilian full back, Wellington has different attributes that add to his game.

Although he does like to get forward and dribble forward when he gets the chance, that is not his whole game.

He prefers to get a cross in over getting his own shots off. With Ivan Toney up top, this could be a useful weapon.

What has Wellington said?

When asked about a potential move, the fullback said: “I had offers from Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen, but I’m still thinking about my club.”

In the later stages of the transfer window, it is reported that Brentford placed a £4 million bid to Sao Paulo.

It is claimed that the Brazilian outfit wanted at least £20 million due to his importance.

The defender is still looking forward to potentially playing European football in the future.

On this, he said: “The desire of every person our age, every teenager. Everyone wants to be in Europe.

“It’s not too far away. Morato, João Pedro, are in Europe. It’s a dream that isn’t too far away.

“I’m still thinking about São Paulo. Having a great championship, I hope there will be an opportunity for me.”

Brentford clearly have an interest, but it might not be until January or next summer that a bid is successful.
