One realistic signing from a rival to improve Brentford in January

Brentford have had an up-and-down start to the season and with the January window approaching, who could be signed from a rival?

It is safe to say that in the absence of Ivan Toney, the Bees have found it more difficult to find the back of the net regularly.

Thomas Frank’s side have managed to score 11 goals across their 8 Premier League games. That being said only one win isn’t good enough.

In terms of forward options, Yoane Wissa and Kevin Mbeumo are the main options right now. With plenty of injuries, it is the only option.

Kevin Schade, Keane Lewis-Potter and Mikkel Damsgaard are out, at least one forward will be necessary in January.

With all that being said, who is a realistic signing Brentford could make from a rival?

Maxwel Cornet

Although the Bees are in need of a recognised number nine, Toney could return and hit the ground running in January.

Because of this, a more versatile man who can play anywhere across the front line would be more advisable.

Maxwel Cornet would represent an older player than the Bees typically go for. Despite this, his Premier League experience, he adds something new.

In his time with Burnley, he was explosive in spite of their eventual relegation. In 26 games he managed ten goal involvements.

Injuries have hampered his spell with West Ham United and as a result, they may look to cut their losses while they can.

The Ivory Coast international would fit in perfectly at the GTEC Community Stadium due to his work rate and willingness to track back.

When he is on song he can be a dangerous weapon, bringing him to Brentford would be a great move. He brings versatility, extra cover as well as the ability to score a goal.

West Ham paid £20 million for his signature last summer, but this January he may be worth a punt.
