The October international break is here and the 2023/24 season is in full swing. It is time for our first power rankings of the season.

The Bees began the season in great form, going unbeaten for the opening four Premier League games, also securing a win in the EFL Cup.

What has followed has been a combination of poor performances, injuries and some unlucky moments.

Four losses and a draw in the last five games has seen Thomas Frank’s side fall to 15th in the table. There is a long way left this season, however.

Let’s take a look at Brentford’s Power Rankings and see how good some players have been.

Brentford Power Rankings

1. Mathias Jensen

Jensen has always been a consistent performer for the Bees but this season has been his best yet. He has stepped up, that is for sure.

He has started every game and has contributed to four goals so far this season. Last season he contributed to 11 in 37 games, so he is well on the way to smashing that.

The Dane keeps Frank’s side ticking and has become as important as anyone.

2. Bryan Mbeumo

With no Ivan Toney, there was a question as to who would step up and become the talisman for this Brentford side.

Those questions were quietened down when Mbeumo scored four in four Premier League games at the start of the season.

Despite not scoring in his last four, his impact is massive when he is in form. Without him, this season could be going much differently.

3. Yoane Wissa

Mbeumo’s partner in crime this season, Wissa has scored two and assisted one while featuring in every game.

Alongside his Cameroonian strike partner, they started the season as well as anybody in the league.

If he can get back on the goalscoring track, following his assist at Old Trafford, he is a useful weapon for Frank’s side.

4. Christian Norgaard

The captain sets by example, simple as that.

There is nothing flashy about the Danish international, but he always performs at a seven out of ten every game without fail.

He has managed to contribute to two goals this season while also being a rock defensively. 71% tackle success just goes to show how solid he has been.

It may not be a fashionable Power Rankings pick, but he has been as good as anyone else has overall.

5. Nathan Collins

The first of the new signings on this list. Collins has been impressive since his big-money move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With the injury to last season’s star, Ben Mee, it may have been a difficult start for Collins, but he has adapted well.

Great with the ball at his feet and not afraid to put his body on the line, he has had a strong start.

6. Ethan Pinnock

Collins’ partner in crime, Pinnock has also stepped up this season in the absence of Mee.

Like his centre-back partner, his ability on the ball has come on leaps and bounds. He has picked out nearly 400 passes in eight games this season already.

Top performer so far, just needs to contribute in front of goal more regularly. He has missed multiple big chances this season. This puts him further down the Power Rankings than he may deserve.

7. Mark Flekken

Another new signing and one who has had to adapt to a new league.

The Dutchman had a shaky pre-season, but since the Premier League kicked off, he has found his feet and contributed massively.

He was called up as number one for his national team and was sorely missed in the recent Manchester United defeat.

8. Kevin Schade

The German would have been higher on this list if it wasn’t for his injury.

Lightning quick and a danger to opponents, it looked like Schade had finally found his feet after his wondergoal against Crystal Palace.

Sadly for him, two games later, he picked up an injury which will see him out for months. A great start but his injury has held him back.

9. Rico Henry

This could be a copy and paste of the last.

Henry had started the season so well. With a potential England call-up and elite club transfer rumours making the news on a daily basis.

He then suffered a season-ending injury against Newcastle United which has directly coincided with the Bees’ drop in form.

The left-back should be higher in these Power Rankings, but with the seriousness of his injury, he just can’t be.

10. Kristoffer Ajer

On a more positive note, Ajer has had a good start to the season.

His versatility sometimes plays against him as he often is tasked with filling in certain places. Such as on the right after Henry’s injury.

When he does play, however, he is consistent and there are rarely complaints. He may get better with game time, but with Collins, Pinnock and Mee, it may be difficult.
